Sipho is a very sweet and affectionate child. His mother abandoned him, so he now lives with five other children and his widowed grandmother, who is unemployed. Sipho’s family enrolled him in MCA because they believed that he was deaf and learning-disabled and were told by teachers that he would never make it in the public school system.
Sipho has really struggled academically, but we are noticing some signs of improvement and he is slowly making progress. We will likely hold him back a year, so that he can get some more individualized attention for his specific needs, before promoting him to Grade 2.
Sipho is a perfect example of a child who would be totally lost in the public school system due to his learning disability. We are thankful that he has the opportunity to participate in MCA’s small classrooms and receive the intensive instruction he needs to flourish.
